Golf Lessons & Coaching

Steve Barschdorf

Steve brings 20 years of teaching experience and has worked with golfers across every level of the game — from juniors and beginners to collegiate players and professionals. He also spent six years as a high school varsity golf coach, with multiple players going on to compete at the collegiate level.

Steve believes there is no single golf swing that works for everyone. Each golfer moves differently based on their body, athletic ability, and physical limitations, and his instruction is built around those individual differences.

“I believe everyone’s golf swing will look slightly different based on what their body allows them to do. My goal is to build a swing around each individual, making the golf swing as simple, natural, and effortless as possible. Ultimately, I want every student to understand their own swing well enough to recognize what’s happening and make adjustments on the course without needing an instructor beside them.”

Steve works with men, women, and junior golfers of all skill levels, and group instruction is also available by request.

Sam Mesdahl

PGA Associate | First Tee Program Director | Level 1 First Tee Coach

A Hermantown native and talented golfer, Sam Mesedahl brings a strong connection to the local golf community and a passion for helping others improve. Through his work at Enger Park and as First Tee Program Director, Sam has helped introduce a new generation of golfers to the game, building their skills and confidence along the way.

Sam’s approach centers on achievable goals, sound fundamentals, and an encouraging environment. His work with junior golfers emphasizes patience, problem-solving, and respect—skills that serve players both on and off the course. He believes progress starts with understanding where each golfer is today and helping them take the next step.

“Golf can feel overwhelming when you’re trying to work on everything at once. My goal is to give players a clear understanding of what they’re working toward and a few simple things they can focus on to get there. I want them to leave a lesson feeling encouraged and excited to keep playing.”

As a skilled player himself, Sam understands the dedication golf demands, but also the importance of enjoying the process. He brings that perspective to his coaching, helping golfers recognize their progress while building a lasting connection to the game.

“One of the best parts of teaching is seeing something click for a player. It might be their first solid shot or finally finding consistency with something they’ve struggled with. Those moments build confidence, and that confidence is what keeps people coming back.”
